Important information and FAQ

COMMUNICATION
The Tomahawks use Sports Engine to communicate with parents. All practice schedules, games,
and events will be posted to the sports engine app. Practice and game cancellations will also be posted
to the sports engine app. All weather-related practice cancellations will be updated on sports engine by
5PM the day of practice. Please do not clutter the chat with questions about rain, lightning, tornadoes,
etc. A board member will relay all practice changes by 5PM the day of practice.

TACKLE & FLAG UNIFORMS
Uniforms are included with registration for both tackle and flag registration.  We will host uniform fitting dates in the sports engine app. All players need to be fitted in order to ensure the proper sizing is ordered for your player. Our uniforms are custom made and require your child to be present at the fitting to ensure proper fit. Jerseys and pants should fit very snugly to your player’s body. Please keep an eye out on the schedule for fitting dates and make time to attend one. Uniform payments are made through the webpage, but sizing will be submitted based on your fitting. A
QR code will be provided to you at the fitting for you to scan and complete the uniform order form.

CONDITIONING CAMP
Fall season camp begins in June and will be each Tuesday and Thursday from 6PM – 7PM through
mid July (Date will be provided late). Location of camp will be later. Things your player needs for camp:
reusable water bottle, athletic attire, football cleats and mouthguard. Please ensure that your player hydrates. Hydration means that their urine is colorless and odorless. They should begin to drink water as soon as possible to ensure proper hydration for the start of camp. It will be hot! Let’s keep our boys healthy and hydrate throughout the season.

REGULAR SEASON PRACTICE
Regular season practice begins in July after conditioning camp and will be held each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6PM – 7:30PM. If there is a bad weather day, practice may be moved to a Wednesday or Saturday as a make-up. Regular season practice is full gear. For tackle players, you will need to come to practice with your helmet, mouthguard, pads, practice jersey, practice pants, cleats and reusable water bottle. If your child attends practice without any one of those items, they will run the field rather than participate in their team’s practice. This is a safety concern as we cannot have a fully suited team practicing with a player with no/missing gear. Flag players will need to attend practice with their helmet, mouthguard, cleats, and reusable water bottle. No plastic single-use water bottles will be allowed on the field. Please be mindful of the items you bring with you to practice and ensure you pick up all your trash. Any trash that must be picked up by staff after practice will cause players to run at the following practice. Your player should NEVER attend practice wearing their game day jersey’s. Prior year jerseys may be used as practice attire at your coach’s discretion. Parents and siblings are not allowed on the field during practices or games. This is for insurance purposes. At the time of registration your child is fully covered by our insurance, spectators are not. If your child is hurt during practice or games the coaches and team mom’s will assess the player and bring them to you if the injury necessitates.

CERTIFICATION
Certification is a process by which your player will be required to appear before the Northwest Texas Youth Football Association NWTYFA board to verify their age and their weight. There will be at least 2 certification dates, location for these will be provided by NWTYFA . Your child must be certified in order to play. If you miss certification, you will not play. Certification ensures that your child is rostered on the correct age-group team and that they can carry the ball during the game. Each age group has a weight limit for players to carry the ball. If your child is over the weight limit for their age group at certification, they will not be allowed to carry the ball for the season. This is a safety issue. Please speak with your players coach to determine the correct weight limit for their age group.

GOVERNING BODY
WYAA Tomahawks play under North West Texas Youth Football Association (NWTYFA). The
other towns that also play within this league are Alvarado, Ennis, Ferris, Red Oak, Saginaw, Burleson, Castleberry, Forney, Kaufman, Keller, Kennedale, Lake Worth, Richland, Midlothian, Seagoville and Terrell. You will play away games in potentially any of those cities. Be prepared to travel. NWTYFA is an age pure league. This means that only 8-year-olds will play with 8- year-olds. The date cut off to determine age is September 1st. Players can only play up 1 age level. Players that choose to play up will be required to go through an evaluation to determine if they ca handle playing a higher age level. This evaluation will include the head coach of the age level he is wanting to play up to and/or a Tomahawk board member. Safety will always be the most important evaluation when playing up and WYAA reserves the right to allow or not allow a player to play up an age level. The league follows NCAA/UIL football rules.

GAMEDAY INFORMATION

There will be NO tents, coolers, chairs, wagons, oversized umbrellas, or pets of any kind allowed into the stands in Waxahachie. We do not allow megaphones, airhorns, Bluetooth speakers or microphones unless used by cheer squads. Please allow your coaches to deal with officials, and let board members deal with the fans from opposing towns. Do not embarrass our organization by getting into it with parents from another town.

COACHES
If you have issues with a coach please reach out to our coaching director, Steve Barres. If you
feel your child is being treated unfairly, if there are issues with decorum, etc. please take it to our
coaching director. He will be able to assess the situation, facilitate a meeting, and correct behavior much
more quickly than posting complaints in your team chat. Each coach will have a team meeting before
the season begins, it will most likely be at the end of one of your first practices. He will introduce himself
and his assistant coaches and you will be able to ask any questions that were not asked at the Town Hall.
